Giuliani Criticizes Reza Pahlavi’s Bid for Iranian Leadership

In a strongly worded critique, Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of Fresh York City, has publicly condemned Reza Pahlavi’s recent declaration of himself as a “transitional leader” for Iran. Giuliani warned that this move poses a significant risk and could exacerbate instability within the country.

“Dangerous Step and a Recipe for Disaster”

Giuliani characterized Pahlavi’s attempt to position himself as a transitional leader as a “risky move” that will not contribute to democratic change in Iran. He argued that such actions are likely to complicate the political landscape and increase instability.1

Lack of Popular Support and a Legacy of Repression

Giuliani asserted that Pahlavi lacks substantial support within Iran, reminding observers that he is the son of the Shah, whose regime was overthrown by the Iranian people. He emphasized that the Shah’s rule was marked by years of repression, brutality and autocratic governance.1 Giuliani believes the current Iranian population, actively fighting against religious authoritarianism, will not accept a return to a similar system.

“Stolen Money and an Insult to the People’s Sacrifices”

Giuliani described Pahlavi as the heir to a system characterized by corruption and imposed upon the Iranian people by foreign powers. He criticized Pahlavi’s lifestyle, alleging that he has lived a life of luxury funded by wealth taken from the Iranian people. Giuliani concluded that Pahlavi’s attempt to accept a central role in Iranian politics is an insult to those currently sacrificing for freedom.1

As of March 3, 2026, no official response has been issued by Reza Pahlavi or his representatives regarding Giuliani’s statements.
