GL27 Racing Launches Autism Workforce Initiative for 2026 Laughlin Desert Classic

GL27 Racing and entrepreneur Gerard Lopez have launched the Monito Race Command Center, a motorsports workforce-development initiative that places autistic young adults into active race support roles during off-road competitions, beginning at the 2026 Laughlin Desert Classic. The program gives participants aged 16 to 21 hands-on experience in GPS monitoring, race tracking, data analysis, strategy support, and radio communications while working alongside experienced team personnel.

Monito Foundation creates motorsports pathways for neurodivergent youth

Four participants with autism will join the GL27 Racing team at each event. These individuals perform essential operational duties that directly support modern motorsports teams on race day. The Monito Foundation and its partners absorb all financial requirements for the participants. This coverage includes travel expenses, lodging, meals, team apparel, and training costs.

Lopez developed the initiative based on his personal experiences growing up with autism. His stated aim is to create direct pathways and meaningful access for neurodivergent young people within motorsports. The team currently handles applications on an ongoing basis for eligible young adults between the ages of 16 and 21.

Future Expansion Plans for Accessible Facilities

GL27 Racing plans to scale the initiative beyond its current operational scope. Organizers are designing an additional race command center specifically configured to accommodate young people with physical disabilities. The racing entity is actively soliciting industry contributions to construct this specialized facility. Mechanics, electricians, and carpenters interested in providing professional expertise, equipment, transportation, lodging, or funding can reach out directly to the team via Instagram at @gl27racingteam.
