Glen Rovers and St Finbarr’s Set for First Cork County Final Clash in 38 Years
For the first time since 1988, Glen Rovers and St Finbarr’s will meet in the Cork senior hurling final after both city clubs secured hard-fought victories in their respective semi-finals at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The clash brings together two storied rivals chasing distinct milestones on Leeside, with the Barrs seeking to equal the northsiders’ 27 titles on the senior roll of honour while the Glen target their first crown in a decade following their 2023 relegation.
Glen Rovers Overpower Midleton in Second-Half Surge
Glen Rovers booked their place in the decider with a 2-21 to 1-18 victory over top seeds Midleton. The northsiders held a narrow 0-10 to 0-9 advantage at half-time playing with the wind, relying heavily on the accuracy of Patrick Horgan, who finished with 0-11. The game ignited after the interval when Micheál Mullins struck for his first goal, though Midleton responded swiftly through Paul Connaughton. Mullins delivered the decisive blow with a 54th-minute bouncer to the far corner. Despite Horgan missing a late penalty and Tommy O’Connell receiving a red card for Midleton, the Glen maintained control to seal the win.
St Finbarr’s Overhaul Kanturk With Late Scoring Spree
In the opening game of the weekend double-header, St Finbarr’s ended Kanturk’s championship run with a 1-27 to 1-22 comeback victory. Kanturk led from the fifth minute until the 59th, stretching their advantage when Alan Walsh netted early in the second half. Paudie Murray’s side faced a four-point deficit before launching an unanswered seven-point scoring run in the final seven minutes. Ben Cunningham and Brian Hayes both tallied 0-5 from play for the Togher side, while Ethan Twomey contributed 1-3, including a crucial low shot to the net following a save by goalkeeper Shane Hurley.
