Octavio Almada Named Head of Wellbeing Programs in Sonora
Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, has appointed Octavio Almada Palafox as the new delegate for Wellbeing Programs in the state of Sonora. The appointment took effect in October 2024, succeeding Jorge Taddei at the conclusion of the previous administration.
Background and Experience
Octavio Almada Palafox brings experience in the fisheries sector to his new role. Previously, he served as the commissioner of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) in Sonora during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. His focus will be on strengthening social programs and improving the quality of life for residents of Sonora. Source

As of September 30, 2025, programs under the Secretariat of Wellbeing have allocated over 918 million pesos (approximately $51.8 million USD as of February 19, 2026) to San Luis Río Colorado for various social programs. This includes over 3 million pesos ($169,000 USD) for the “La Clínica es Nuestra” program within the IMSS-Bienestar, aimed at strengthening community healthcare. Source
