BILLINGS, Mont. – Golfers in Billings, Montana are taking advantage of unusually mild January weather to continue playing, a stark contrast to the snowy conditions experienced last year. The warmer temperatures have allowed courses like Peter Yegen Golf Club to remain open and accessible to enthusiasts.
A welcome Change from Last Year
Jason Flick, Pro Shop manager at Peter Yegen Golf Club, highlighted the notable difference from the previous winter. “This time last year we were closed as there was snow on the ground,” Flick stated. This year, golfers are trading heavy winter gear for lighter attire, with some even playing in shorts and short sleeves.
benefits for Players of All Levels
The warm weather is particularly beneficial for student athletes like Becca Washington, a college golfer. “My favorite part is honestly just being outside and being able to play on the actual course,” Washington explained. “A simulator never really gives you exactly what it is like to be out on the course.so being able to go play nine just like in January is great.”
For other golfers, like Dennis Zimdars, the opportunity to play year-round is about more than just the game itself. “We try to get 12 months in,” Zimdars said. “ItS just for the exercise, mainly. And the company.”
despite the favorable conditions, golfers are still encountering some challenges, such as hard ground and windy conditions. However, the overall sentiment is one of recognition for the chance to continue enjoying the sport during a time when it would typically be unavailable.
