According to statements given by Brian Jackson to KABC, he was visiting a friend at an apartment complex when several rechargeable batteries caught fire. Jackson recounted that one of the batteries exploded unexpectedly, and flames rapidly consumed the building. Amid heavy smoke and evacuating residents, Jackson discovered a pregnant woman trapped inside who was preparing to jump from a high window to escape the smoke and heat.
Jackson recalled telling the woman that jumping from such a height would result in severe injury or death. He stated that he attempted to climb out first to help guide her down safely. According to Jackson’s account reported by KABC, another explosion occurred while he was lowering himself, which caused him to fall from the building. First responders subsequently arrived at the scene, transported the pregnant woman to safety, and rushed Jackson and several others to Riverside Community Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
