Google Discover Gets AI Chatbot for Natural Language Feed Personalization

Conversational Prompts Replace Categorical Buttons

The feature introduces an AI chat interface accessible through the three-dot menu on any content card within the Google app.

Granular Control Over Feed Content

Instead of relying solely on existing signals like search history, YouTube activity, and basic follow or block toggles, users can type explicit requests describing specific topics or links they want to see more or less of.

According to coverage by ZDNET, a user might prompt the system to show long-term deep dives on smart home technology while skipping product press releases, or request specific smartphone setup tips while excluding unrelated software versions.

Immediate Adjustments and Persistent Memory

Google’s system processes these natural-language inputs, adjusts recommendations immediately, and retains the stated preferences for future sessions.

Users can also select a “Refresh your feed” option to apply changes instantly.

Direct Integration for Publishers

Alongside the Discover chatbot, Google is introducing a “Preferred Sources” button that publishers can embed directly on their websites.

As reported by TechCrunch, readers can click this button to prioritize a specific publication, directly influencing its visibility across Google Search, Discover, and Google News without leaving the page.

Broader Ecosystem Updates

The rollout arrives alongside other ecosystem updates, including customizable daily audio briefings by topic in the Google News app.

The new Discover chat controls and preferred publisher options are currently deploying across the Google app, with availability varying by user and region.
