Redwood Materials Secures $425 Million to Expand Battery Recycling and Energy Storage Solutions
Redwood Materials,a leading US battery recycler, has finalized a $425 million Series E funding round, exceeding its previously announced target of $350 million. The investment signifies strong confidence in the company’s strategic direction and operational success, attracting both existing and new investors, including tech giant Google.
This influx of capital arrives as demand for energy storage solutions surges, particularly from large technology companies like Google and Nvidia – the latter having invested through its NVentures arm in a prior round. The growing need is largely driven by the increasing electricity demands of US data centers. Redwood Materials is uniquely positioned to address this demand through its innovative battery network, which repurposes second-life batteries for energy storage facilities.
The company’s approach facilitates grid stabilization using renewable energy sources, offering a cost-effective and rapidly deployable alternative to conventional fossil fuels. These solutions are applicable to both large-scale mini-grids and existing grid infrastructure. A strategic partnership with General Motors, established in mid-2025, further solidifies Redwood Materials’ commitment to second-life battery applications for energy storage.
The newly secured funding will be instrumental in accelerating the development of redwood Materials’ energy storage platform, while concurrently bolstering its core business of critical mineral recycling and refining. Recent advancements in this area include the commencement of operations at the company’s new, state-of-the-art campus in South Carolina, dedicated to the recovery and refinement of essential battery materials.
