Google’s Search Live Now Available in Czech Republic
Google has activated its Search Live feature on Android devices in the Czech Republic, expanding access to this AI-powered search capability beyond its initial availability in English and select international markets. This new feature, complementing existing AI functionalities, represents an extension of the Google Lens application, enabling real-time audio and video analysis with accompanying web links for further information.
How Search Live Works
The Search Live function is integrated directly into the Google application on Android phones. Users can access it under the search bar, next to the AI Mode – identified by an icon depicting a sound symbol with a star. Upon activation, a new screen appears, which can be minimized to allow background audio detection or used with the camera activated for video analysis.
In this mode, users can ask simple questions about objects in their surroundings – such as identifying an object, its name, or its purpose. The system aims to provide quick voice responses, powered by the Gemini 3.1 Flash model, alongside relevant web links.
Accessing the Feature
Search Live can be accessed by pressing the “geek” icon (settings) within the search widget on the Android phone’s home screen, or directly through the Google application. Within the settings, users can configure whether Search Live should continue functioning even when the application is minimized, and whether a live transcript of voice commentary should be displayed (though the voice style itself cannot be altered). A history of searches and a textual transcription of recent commands and responses are too available through the context menu.
Capabilities and Limitations
The mode recognizes objects within the viewfinder, provides voice responses, generates instant subtitles or text transcriptions, and offers web links for further exploration. Whereas Google continues testing the function outside of the US and India, its availability in the Czech Republic, alongside support for the Czech and Slovak languages, suggests a broader rollout is imminent.
Search Live vs. Gemini Live
While sharing some similarities, Search Live differs from Gemini Live. Gemini Live focuses on conversational interactions, brainstorming, and in-depth discussions, allowing for screen and camera sharing. Search Live, conversely, is designed for immediate reactions to the user’s surroundings, providing both voice responses and direct links to multiple websites.
Availability and Stability
The feature has been observed functioning on both Samsung phones and Pixel devices. Clearing data within the Google app settings temporarily removes the Live Search button, but it reappears within minutes, indicating its status as a fully integrated component of the Google mobile app.
