GoPro Unveils MISSION 1 Series of Compact 8K Cinema Cameras GoPro has launched its new MISSION 1 Series of compact cinema cameras, marking a significant expansion into professional-grade video capture. Announced in April 2026, the lineup consists of three models: the MISSION 1, MISSION 1 PRO, and MISSION 1 PRO ILS, all built around a shared 50MP 1-inch sensor and GoPro’s new GP3 processor. The MISSION 1 PRO and MISSION 1 PRO ILS models support 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, while the base MISSION 1 model captures 8K at 30 fps. All three cameras offer Open Gate video capture, which utilizes the full sensor width for cinematic aspect ratios and enhanced post-production flexibility. The MISSION 1 PRO and PRO ILS also deliver 4K video at up to 240 fps and 1080p at up to 960 fps for ultra-slow-motion recording, with the latter available in short bursts due to thermal constraints. A key feature across the series is the new 1-inch sensor, which GoPro states provides up to 14 stops of dynamic range—comparable to full-frame mirrorless cameras—and improved low-light performance. This is further enhanced by the 10-bit GP-Log2 shooting mode, which preserves greater detail in shadows and highlights for color grading. The MISSION 1 PRO ILS model stands out with its interchangeable lens system based on the Micro Four Thirds mount, allowing users to attach a wide range of lenses via adapters. The standard MISSION 1 and MISSION 1 PRO models feature a fixed lens with a 159-degree field of view, the widest standard lens offered on any GoPro action camera to date. All models benefit from the GP3 processor, which GoPro cites for improved image quality, battery efficiency, and thermal management. The cameras are designed for rugged use, maintaining GoPro’s reputation for durability in extreme conditions while targeting filmmakers, content creators, and aspiring enthusiasts seeking compact, high-performance cinema tools. GoPro has also introduced an expanded accessory ecosystem for the MISSION 1 Series, including a new wireless microphone system, point-and-shoot and powered grips, higher-capacity Enduro 2 batteries, and an I/O expansion media mod. These additions aim to support longer shoots and greater versatility in professional workflows. The MISSION 1 Series represents GoPro’s strategic shift from traditional action cameras toward dedicated cinema-focused devices, leveraging its expertise in miniaturization and ruggedness to meet the demands of modern content creation.
