Classic. Estonian maestro Olari Elts, who was the LNSO’s chief conductor from 2001 to 2006, will take the conductor’s desk of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) on Friday, February 13, at the Riga Congress House. Since 2020, he has been the chief conductor of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Cellist Kristaps Bergs will play solo in the First Cello Concerto of Pēteras Vaskas. The program also includes the Fifth Symphony of Jean Sibelius, as well as two works created in 1990 in honor of Sibelius’ 125th anniversary, by the Estonian composer Erki Sven Tir Searching for roots/Searching for Roots and Scottish composer Teas Musgraves Magic song/Song of the Enchanter. These opuses, along with works by six other authors dedicated to Sibelius, were once commissioned by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chamber music. In honor of the centenary of the living Hungarian genius Đerģ Kurtágs, soprano Viktorija Majore and pianist Herta Hansena have created a program that will be performed in Liepāja on Sunday, February 15. Kurtága will sound Seven songs for soprano and piano and Eight piano worksas well as songs by Robert Schumans and Richard Strauss, Artur Muscat’s tribute to the voice of Victoria Majore and vocals created by the singer.
