Beloved Community Member Christian Schober Passes Away After Leukemia Battle
The town of Greifenburg, Austria, is mourning the loss of Christian Schober, a 46-year-vintage father of two, who passed away on March 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Schober was widely known and respected within the community for his helpfulness, and generosity.
A Community Rallies in Support
Approximately six months prior to his passing, the Landjugend Greifenburg, a local youth organization, initiated a typing campaign to find a potential stem cell donor for Schober after his diagnosis in the spring. The campaign aimed to connect him with a life-saving match through the “Giving for Life” association. According to Elisa Oschlinger, chairwoman of Landjugend Greifenburg, “He was described as an extremely helpful person who was always there for everyone.”
A Profound Loss
The loss has deeply affected Schober’s family and friends. A poignant quote shared by loved ones reflects the suddenness and pain of his passing: “Actually, everything was self-evident, that we talked to each other, laughed together, cried together. Actually, everything was self-evident, except the ending.” His family expressed their grief, stating, “We would have liked to have had you with us. The place in the middle of our family and in our house is now empty.”
Funeral Arrangements
A funeral service will be held on March 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. At the local cemetery in Greifenburg. A Holy Mass for the Soul will be read during the ceremonies.
