Lamongan Man Arrested in Connection with Gresik Stabbing, Home Burned in Retaliation

Gresik, Indonesia – A 45-year-old man from Tlogosadang Village, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, has been named a suspect in a stabbing incident that occurred in Panceng District, Gresik Regency, on February 27, 2026. The suspect, identified only as “S,” expressed deep regret over his actions, stating they were committed in a moment of emotion. His home in Lamongan was subsequently burned down by a mob following the attack.

S confessed to investigators that he regretted the incident and was particularly distressed by the impact on his family. “I am truly sorry for what happened. If it could be repeated, I would not have committed that act,” he said, according to police reports. He added, “I didn’t feel the consequences would be like this. My house was burned, and now I have to answer for my actions in prison.”

Details of the Incident

The stabbing occurred during a dawn patrol activity involving youths from Campurejo Village and Banyutengah Village in Panceng District. A brawl broke out in front of a billiards hall and cafe after the groups exchanged water bombs and engaged in an argument. The situation escalated when members of the Banyutengah Village group returned to Campurejo Village, leading to a physical altercation.

During the chaos, S allegedly stabbed two young men from Campurejo Village: Moh. Ruhul Madani (25) and Wahyu Agung Pratama (24). Both victims were transported to Ibnu Sina Regional Hospital for treatment.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police arrested S less than 24 hours after the incident, locating him in Paciran District, Lamongan, at approximately 11:40 PM on February 27, 2026. He is currently being detained even as the investigation continues.

AKP Arya Widjaya, Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for Gresik Police, stated that the motive for the stabbing is still under investigation. “We are still investigating further. We will report on the progress later,” he said.

Community Reaction and Aftermath

Following the stabbing, a mob burned down S’s house in Paciran, Lamongan. Authorities have not released details regarding any arrests related to the arson.

The incident highlights tensions between youth groups in the area and has prompted a police investigation into the underlying causes of the conflict.
