Devastating Early Morning Blaze Levels Car Business
They were just building it all up again. But now they get to do that all over again,
a spokesperson for the safety region told regional broadcaster Rijnmond, as reported by NOS.
A massive fire completely gutted an auto business and its housing warehouse on the Noordeindseweg in Berkel en Rodenrijs early Thursday morning. The destructive blaze left no injuries. However, it immediately triggered a police investigation into potential arson.
Flames ripped through the structure at approximately 03:00 local time. Thick smoke billowed across the area, forcing the local fire department to scale up their response during the dark hours.
Firefighters Quell Raging Flames as Smoke Spreads
Crews battled the inferno aggressively before bringing it under control. Firefighters issued the “brand meester” (fire mastered) signal around 05:30.
The intense smoke and strong burning odor traveled significantly. The acrid air reached as far as Zoetermeer.
Safety officials confirmed that no toxic substances were released into the atmosphere. The structure of the former farm building suffered total devastation.
Parallels to a 2024 Deadly Drug Lab Incident
Authorities noted parallels to a previous incident at the exact same location. In 2024, a major fire tore through the very same building on the Noordeindseweg.
During the aftermath of that earlier blaze, authorities discovered the body of a 20-year-old man. They also found materials used for illicit drug production.
Investigators stated that this time around, no such irregularities were found inside the charred remains of the warehouse. Law enforcement officials have launched a thorough probe into the cause of Thursday’s fire, noting that an overnight inferno of this magnitude raises questions.
Regional Explosions Add to Chaos
The destructive fire occurred amidst a night marked by multiple explosions across the wider region. Police registered a series of detonations during the early morning hours.

The tally included two blasts in Rotterdam, one in Dordrecht, and a fourth directly in Berkel en Rodenrijs. The local explosion in Berkel en Rodenrijs struck an industrial property on the Industrieweg, located roughly five kilometers away from the blazing car warehouse.
While these blasts caused property damage, no injuries were reported.
Forensic Probes and Ongoing Police Appeal
Investigators stated that there are currently no indications linking the overnight explosions to the massive warehouse fire. However, the connection remains under active review as forensics examine the sequences.

Authorities have not yet determined whether the latest fire shares any connection to the incident from 2024. Investigators plan to conduct comprehensive technical examinations at the Noordeindseweg site throughout the day as safety conditions permit.
Meanwhile, police have urged any witnesses or individuals with relevant footage or information regarding the fire or the regional explosions to come forward.
