More Than 2.8K Lbs. of Ground Beef Recalled Over E. coli Concerns

More than 2,800 pounds of ground beef have been recalled by Lakeside Foods due to potential E. coli contamination, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall affects ground beef products produced on October 12, 2023.

The recalled products were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. They bear the establishment number “EST.269B” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The FSIS began investigating after receiving reports of illnesses linked to the consumption of Lakeside foods ground beef. while no confirmed illnesses have been reported yet, the recall is being conducted out of an abundance of caution.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled ground beef are advised not to consume it. Instead, they shoudl either discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. E. coli can cause severe illness, especially in young children and the elderly. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting.

The FSIS urges anyone experiencing these symptoms after consuming ground beef to contact a healthcare provider.
