According to the Secretaría de Salud de Guanajuato, the state healthcare system collected 25 mil 228 units of blood from an equal number of donors during the year. Out of that total, mil 958 units came from voluntary donations, bolstering hospital reserves needed for patient transfusions and medical procedures.
Guanajuato Blood Donation Campaigns and Strategy
To reach these collection figures, the Secretariat of Health organized 33 blood donation campaigns across various municipalities in the state. Gabriel Cortés Alcalá, Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, stated that these drives bring the service closer to residents while fostering a culture of solidarity among the local population.
Cortés Alcalá explained that the totals reflect a strong response from thousands of residents participating in both voluntary and replacement donations. Blood donations remain critical for managing emergency room cases, surgical procedures, and oncological treatments across local hospitals.
Regionalized Blood Transfusion Network in Guanajuato
The Centro Estatal de Medicina Transfusional (CEMT) operates a regionalized services model to coordinate the capture, processing, analysis, and distribution of blood components throughout Guanajuato. This operational network includes two blood banks situated at the CEMT and the General Hospital of Celaya.
Supporting these two banks are 16 collection centers distributed across general hospitals, maternal facilities, and specialized units. According to the Secretariat of Health, collection sites operate within general hospitals located in Irapuato, Silao, Guanajuato, Salamanca, Salvatierra, Dolores Hidalgo, Acámbaro, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Santiago, Uriangato, Pénjamo, and San José Iturbide.
Additional collection sites function inside the maternal hospitals of Celaya, Irapuato, and San Luis de la Paz, alongside the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad del Bajío. These specialized locations gather whole blood units before transferring them to the CEMT for component separation, analysis, and subsequent distribution to ISAPEG healthcare facilities.
