Guangdong Goods Go Global: Zhongshan’s Premium Products Debut in Malaysia
The “Guangdong Goods Go Global” initiative marked its first overseas brick-and-mortar exhibition and sales event on April 25, 2026, at Pavilion Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two-day showcase, held alongside the China (Zhongshan)–Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) Investment Promotion & Exchange Conference, featured over 300 products from more than 70 Zhongshan-based companies across sectors including smart home appliances, lighting, hardware, daily essentials, and intelligent equipment such as physiotherapy robotics.
Major Chinese brands TCL, Changhong, and Vatti participated in the event, with over 20 firms engaging in direct sales although others focused on brand exposure and partnership building. Organisers described the hybrid format—combining exhibition and on-site retail—as designed to accelerate market penetration and brand recognition in Southeast Asia.
Jiang Ji, Party Secretary of the Zhongshan Investment Promotion Bureau, stated that the initiative has already begun attracting international investors, noting that “more and more businessmen who are optimistic about Zhongshan’s industrial and supply chain advantages are coming to Zhongshan to visit after seeing Zhongshan’s products.”
The event promoted Zhongshan’s city image, industrial strengths, business environment, overseas Chinese culture, specialty products, and investment opportunities. Officials from China and Malaysia expressed high expectations for the initiative, which leverages overseas Chinese communities as a bridge to deepen Sino–Malaysian economic and trade cooperation and help premium Zhongshan products gain a foothold in ASEAN and expand worldwide.
In his address, Chiew Choon Man, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, stated that the official launch of the event marks a new starting point for economic and trade cooperation and opens a new chapter in the continuation of hometown ties and cultural integration. He noted that the event is not only a showcase of premium products but also an important bridge for city-level economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges.
The entry of Zhongshan’s premium products, such as home appliances and intelligent equipment, into the Malaysian market aims to bring local consumers high-quality “Made in Zhongshan” products and a unique cultural experience. The melodious sounds of Cantonese folk music filled the air during the event, and rows of typical Lingnan arcade buildings appeared on the large screen in the square, highlighting the cultural dimension of the initiative.
The “Guangdong Goods Go Global: Zhongshan Products in Malaysia” event represents the first physical retail-style activation abroad for the programme since its inception, according to Chinese news portal The South. Carrying the theme “Zhongshan Premium Products, Trade Connecting Southeast Asia,” the showcase kicked off a two-day event that underscores the growing economic and cultural ties between Zhongshan and Malaysia.
