Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Sets Novel Passenger Records During Spring Festival Travel Rush
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in Guangdong province experienced its busiest day ever on Saturday, February 21, 2026, handling 277,600 passenger trips during the peak of the annual Spring Festival travel rush. This represents a 7.37 percent increase in passenger traffic and a 9.12 percent rise in flight movements compared to the same period last year, according to airport authorities .
Record-Breaking Numbers
In addition to the record-breaking passenger numbers, the airport also processed 4,154.14 metric tons of cargo and mail on February 21, a 9.1 percent increase year-on-year . Over the first 20 days of the Spring Festival travel period, which commenced on February 2, the airport facilitated 5.2785 million passenger trips, becoming the first airport in China to surpass the five million passenger mark during this year’s holiday rush .
Consistent High Traffic
Throughout the travel period, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport maintained consistently high passenger volumes. For 11 consecutive days, between February 5 and February 15, the airport handled over 260,000 passenger trips daily. Daily passenger numbers exceeded 270,000 for three consecutive days from February 11 to February 13 .
Post-Festival Peak
The return peak following the Spring Festival also saw record numbers, with 275,500 passengers on February 20 and the new single-day record of 277,600 passengers on February 21 . Passenger flow remained high on Sunday and Monday, February 22 and 23, as the Spring Festival holiday concluded .

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport celebrated the Spring Festival with cultural events for travelers . Performers were present at the airport as part of the celebrations, which began on February 2 .
