GuyExpo 2026 officially launched its preparations on Thursday afternoon at the National Exhibition Centre in Sophia, Georgetown, setting the dates for Guyana’s premier trade and investment exposition from November 12 to November 15, 2026. Operating under the theme “Creating Tomorrow’s Opportunities Through Today’s Investments,” the 31st chapter of the event aims to connect local businesses with regional and international markets.
The Evolution and Scope of GuyExpo
Launched initially as a local exhibition in 1995, GuyExpo has grown over three decades into a major platform for domestic enterprises to display products, secure customers, and build commercial partnerships. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues delivered the feature address at the launch ceremony, emphasizing that future national opportunities rely directly on current investments in human capital, technology, infrastructure, and business ideas.
According to Minister Rodrigues, investment encompasses more than large-scale capital deployment. It includes small business owners purchasing new equipment, entrepreneurs funding professional training, and young people developing technical skills. The ministry plans to spotlight these innovations and cultural achievements prominently throughout the four-day exposition.
Expanding Business-to-Business Engagement and Financing
Building on the business-to-business engagement framework introduced during the 2025 event, GuyExpo 2026 will prioritize direct networking between exhibitors and potential customers, investors, suppliers, and buyers. A central component of this year’s commercial strategy involves addressing the persistent challenge of capital access for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Minister Rodrigues highlighted the upcoming launch of the Guyana Development Bank as a critical addition to the national business ecosystem. The institution is designed to provide entrepreneurs with financing options of up to three million dollars, alongside technical assistance and dedicated business development support. This capital is intended to allow businesses to upgrade equipment, expand operational capacity, and accelerate product development.
Infrastructure and Economic Context
The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce continues to support local enterprises through structured training programs, standards compliance assistance, and market access initiatives managed via its various agencies. The ultimate objective is to foster scalable growth, increase local production, and enhance the competitiveness of Guyanese products abroad.
