Comrade Vance steps up:
JD Vance’s former classmate from law school,Dan Driscoll, has quickly risen through the ranks and become Trump’s new man in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. It reaps both rice and praise.

The USA’s youngest ever Deputy Secretary of the Army,Dan Driscoll (39),has in a short time gone from leading a large military bureaucracy to becoming one of the front figures in the Trump administration’s attempt to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
The young Iraq veteran, former venture capitalist and close friend of Vice President JD Vance, first presented Trump’s plan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj in Kyiv. This week he then sat down at the negotiating table with Russian officials in the United Arab Emirates.

– More trust in him than hegseth
Driscoll’s unexpected negotiating visit to Kyiv, where he handed over the administration’s latest peace plan, has thus placed the 39-year-old as a central figure alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in the US peace efforts.
Driscoll, like Trump friend and businessman Witkoff and son-in-law Kushner, has apparently benefited from his contacts.
His now advancing position is also in sharp contrast to his own boss, Defense Minister Pete Hegseth. In parallel, Hegseth has spent time in Washington, in meetings at the White House and sending harsh messages to Democrats on social media.
The visit has contributed to a clear two-part picture: A rising star in Driscoll, and an inexperienced Pentagon chief marked by scandals and declining support in the administration, writes Politico.
- There is not much confidence that Hegseth can deliver these messages to key leaders, says an unnamed person with knowledge of the dynamics of the administration to Politico.
- there is more trust in Dan right now, says the person.
