Waste Treatment Plant Fire in Hamyang-gun, South Korea

A fire erupted at 1:59 p.m. On March 26, 2026, in an outdoor yard at a waste treatment plant located in Hamyang-eup, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, South Korea. Firefighting efforts are currently underway.

The Gyeongsangnam-do Fire Department dispatched 15 firefighting vehicles and 45 personnel to the scene to contain and extinguish the blaze. As of the latest reports, there have been no casualties.

Authorities anticipate that fully extinguishing the fire will seize time due to the substantial volume of waste materials present in the yard. Though, officials have stated that there is currently no immediate risk of the fire spreading to nearby hills, as only waste is actively burning.

Fire and police authorities are planning a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage once the fire is fully extinguished.

Hamyang-gun officials issued a safety disaster text message to residents in the vicinity, advising them to move away from the accident site and for drivers to seek alternative routes.
