German Handball Embraces Digital Transformation with Handball360 System

The German Handball Federation (DHB) is implementing a new nationwide association management system, dubbed Handball360, developed by Spanish company Toools. The pilot phase of the system began in March 2026, marking a significant step towards digitalization within German handball. The project aims to streamline processes across competitions, results, statistics, licenses, administration, and services for clubs, teams, and players.

Pilot Phase and Real-Time Adaptation

Currently, over 500 users from across Germany are participating in the pilot phase, testing the system’s functionalities based on their specific roles within the sport. A key feature of this phase is the rapid adaptation of the system based on user feedback. According to Toools shareholder Clemente Sierra Fuentes, changes reported by pilot users are implemented within 48 hours, allowing for immediate testing and refinement.

Key Milestones and System Components

Dr. Klaus Berding, Director of Finance and Legal Affairs at DHB, and Matthias Lahr, Head of Digital Marketing, confirmed that the project is on schedule and currently focused on three key milestones: completing the initial data migration, executing the pilot phase, and developing the front-end user interface for the website and app. The data migration involves transferring information from existing systems into Toools’ iSquad system to enable testing with real-world data.

Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

The Handball360 project is structured around a collaborative approach, with experts from national handball associations adapting the Spanish system to meet the specific needs of German handball since the summer of 2025. Quentin Münch, Manager Handball360 & Match Operations at DHB, emphasized the importance of building expert knowledge within the regional associations and familiarizing all organizationally involved parties with the new system. The pilot phase is divided into three blocks: competitions/game day, registration/passport system, and administration.

Preparing for the 2026/27 Season

The introduction of Handball360 is slated for the start of the 2026/27 season, pending a final decision from the Federal Council on March 28th, 2026. Demo days are being held to showcase the system’s functionality to state association presidents and managing directors. The DHB is actively encouraging clubs to clean up their member data, including updating photos and email addresses, to ensure a smoother transition.

Handball ID and User Registration

A central component of the system change will be the re-registration or data verification process for all users, regardless of their role. Whereas this process is relatively straightforward for individuals, clubs will need to actively communicate the requirement to their players. The DHB and regional associations will provide substantial support during this process.

A Partnership Built on Excellence

Clemente Sierra Fuentes expressed pride in Toools’ partnership with the DHB, stating, “We are very proud to function for the DHB. You are number one in handball. Being selected by you for this task was one of the best moments of my career.”
