Hanyang University Offers Mental Health Assessments for International Students
Hanyang University is prioritizing the mental well-being of its international student population by offering a confidential psychological health assessment throughout March 2026. The assessment utilizes the globally recognized Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to help students check in on their mental health.
What is the PHQ-9?
The PHQ-9 is a nine-item questionnaire designed to screen for depression and assess mental health over the past two weeks [1]. It’s a widely used tool in primary care settings and has been shown to be effective in identifying individuals who may benefit from further support [1]. Research indicates that machine learning algorithms applied to PHQ-9 data can accurately screen for suicidal ideation [1]. A recent systematic review confirmed the PHQ-9’s reliability and validity as a self-administered instrument for assessing depression [3].
Who is Eligible?
The mental health assessment is available to all international undergraduate and graduate students studying on the Seoul campus.
