Harry Kane Travels with Bayern Munich for Atalanta Clash Despite Calf Injury
Munich – Harry Kane has been included in Bayern Munich’s squad for their Champions League round of 16 first leg match against Atalanta on Tuesday, despite recently suffering a calf injury. While he traveled with the team to Italy on Monday, his availability for the starting lineup remains uncertain.
Kane’s Injury and Training Status
The England captain missed Bayern’s 4-1 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, with coach Vincent Kompany describing the issue as a “knock on his calf.” ESPN reports that Kane’s movement appeared unaffected during Monday’s training session, as he participated in exercises with his teammates.
Bayern’s Champions League Campaign
Bayern Munich is aiming to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive season. They currently lead Borussia Dortmund by 11 points in the Bundesliga with nine games remaining.
Atalanta’s Form and Challenge
Atalanta advanced to the round of 16 after a dramatic comeback against Borussia Dortmund, winning 4-3 on aggregate. However, they have been winless in their last three Italian league and cup games, currently sitting seventh in Serie A. Despite this recent form, Kompany emphasized the challenge Atalanta poses, noting their physical strength and impressive pressing style.
“We are playing against a physically strong team,” Kompany stated in a press conference. “The way Atalanta press has been impressive for several years, that has been a big part of their success. They have got experience in Europe, claimed a convincing win over an impressive Leverkusen side — they are no easy opponent, nobody should underestimate them.”
Other Injury Updates
Alphonso Davies has also been making progress, completing his third training session with the team since sustaining an injury. Hiroki Itō has resumed training with the ball as he recovers, though he is expected to miss at least another week. Bavarian Football Works
