The magic is returning to screens. HBO has released the first official teaser trailer for its upcoming original Harry Potter series, confirming a Christmas 2026 premiere date. The series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will debut on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max in select markets, including Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ireland.
A New Generation of Wizards
The series reimagines J.K. Rowling’s beloved saga, beginning with the first novel. The teaser trailer introduces a new cast portraying iconic characters like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, and Severus Snape. The footage showcases key moments from the first book, including Harry’s difficult childhood with the Dursleys, his invitation to Hogwarts, and glimpses of his new world.
What the Trailer Reveals
The trailer opens with scenes from Privet Drive, highlighting Harry’s life with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. It also features a poignant moment of Harry in his cupboard under the stairs, decorated with drawings, including a flying motorbike. The trailer also includes characters such as Aunt Petunia, Draco, Ollivander, Professor McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid.
Hagrid tells Harry, “Your parents were the bravest, kindest people I’ve ever met … they stood up for what they think is right. … Next time I see you will be in Hogwarts.” Ollivander adds, “Mr. Potter, I think we can expect great things from you.”

According to IGN Benelux, HBO views the Harry Potter series as a significant investment, stating it’s a project they “wouldn’t normally make.” This underscores the network’s confidence in the enduring appeal of the franchise and its potential to attract a large audience.
Season One Title and Format
The first season will adapt Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States). The decision to leverage the original UK title for the first season suggests that subsequent seasons will likely follow the corresponding book titles as the series progresses. The series will consist of eight episodes.
The premiere date of Christmas 2026 is earlier than previously announced estimates of 2027.
