HARTFORD — The Hartford Common Council held a joint session with the Town of Hartford Board on Monday to discuss a proposal to annex two parcels of land from the town into the city.
According to the information provided in the meeting’s agenda packet, the plot of land totals roughly 58 acres located at 1500 W. State St. and north of 1500 W. State St. in the Town of Hartford. The area of land, will be zoned R-2 low-density residential and is planned to be utilized for a residential development by Winter Park Builders on the west side of the city.
According to Hartford City Administrator Steve Volkert, this proposed annexation is a part of a large residential development which over time could add up to over 600 units of varying types of housing. Preliminary estimates the city provided indicate the possibility of upwards of 250 new students in Hartford area school districts through the development of this area.
While the item was discussed by the joint committee, Volkert emphasized that this item was purely informational in purpose. The committee — made up of representatives of both the town and city — does not actually approve anything. The item will move before the Hartford Common Council for final approval at a later date.
The packet also included that a public hearing regarding this annexation is currently set to be held at 7 p.m. on March 24 in the Council Chambers of Hartford City Hall, located at 109 N. Main St. This will give the public an opportunity to express their opinions for or against requested annexation, rezoning and official map revision.
