Hartford Hawks Men’s Tennis Falls to Wentworth, Faces USJ Next
WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Hartford men’s tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat against Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Conference of New England (CNE) match on Saturday. The Hawks will return to action on March 25th, facing in-city rival, the University of Saint Joseph.

The Hawks secured the doubles point with victories in the #1 and #3 doubles matches. Sophomore Anthony Pomares (Norwich, N.Y.) and freshman Yande Simunyola (Dawsonville, Ga.) triumphed in the top doubles slot with a 6-2 final score. Freshman Thomas Andersen (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Jared DeGruttola (Auburn, Mass.) secured the point in #3 doubles, also winning 6-2. Wentworth took the #2 doubles match with a score of 6-2.
In singles play, Pomares and DeGruttola earned the other two points for Hartford in the #3 and #5 singles matches, respectively. Pomares won with a 6-3, 6-2 final, while DeGruttola battled back for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. Andersen, playing in #6 singles, narrowly lost in a tie-breaker 6-3 to Chris Hu. The match ultimately came down to sophomore Jake Short (Poughquag, N.Y.), who also lost in a tie-breaker 7-5 in #1 singles, sealing the 4-3 win for Wentworth.
