Havoc Split Weekend Series with Rail Yard Dawgs
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Huntsville Havoc and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs concluded a physical weekend series with a split decision, culminating in a 5-3 victory for the Havoc on Friday and a 2-1 loss on Saturday.
Friday’s Match: Havoc Secure 5-3 Win
The Huntsville Havoc battled to a 5-3 win against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs on Friday, March 21, at the Von Braun Center. The Havoc secured the win after a month on the road.
Roanoke opened the scoring with goals from David Novotny and Travis Broughman, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Austin Alger, assisted by Cole Golka, cut Roanoke’s lead to 2-1 on a power play. Josh Kestner then equalized at 2-2, with assists from Austin Alger and Lincoln Erne.
Early in the third period, Josh Kestner scored a power-play goal, giving Huntsville a 3-2 lead. After Roanoke tied the game, Kestner completed a hat trick at 10:04, securing the game-winning goal. Cole Reginato added another power-play goal three minutes later, extending the lead to 5-3.
Brian Wilson recorded 25 saves on 28 shots for Huntsville. The Havoc capitalized on 3 of 5 power play opportunities.
Saturday’s Match: Dawgs Edge Havoc 2-1
On Saturday night, the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs defeated the Huntsville Havoc 2-1 in a closely contested game. The Havoc outshot the Dawgs 12-8 in the first period, but neither team could find the back of the net.
Roanoke broke the deadlock at 5:56 of the second period. Despite a 4-on-4 situation, Huntsville failed to equalize before the second intermission. The Dawgs extended their lead to 2-0 at 12:32 of the third period.
Dawson Sciarrino, assisted by Cole Reginato, scored a power-play goal for Huntsville, reducing the deficit to 2-1. A series of penalties and altercations followed, including misconduct majors for both teams. Roanoke sealed the victory with an empty-net goal after Huntsville pulled their goalie.
Brian Wilson stopped 28 of 30 shots for Huntsville, but the Havoc only converted on 1 of 6 power play opportunities.
