Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson acknowledged his side lacked initiative and fell below expectations following a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo in Pristina during their opening Nations League fixture.

Ireland struggled to gain a foothold in Pristina, ultimately succumbing to a 1-0 scoreline against Kosovo. Hallgrímsson admitted after the match that the opponents were simply better on the day, noting that too many of his players had an off game.
“They were just better than us on the day,” Hallgrímsson stated, adding that the squad lacked collective initiative. While the team wanted to remain safe, compact, and prioritize a clean sheet, the manager conceded that he wished he knew why the side appeared so passive during the encounter.
