HeyGears G1X: World’s First Desktop Full-Color 3D and UV Printer

The HeyGears G1X is a desktop 3-in-1 device that combines full-color 3D printing, 3D texture printing, and 2D UV printing into a single workflow, according to announcements from the manufacturer. Designed to eliminate the labor-intensive post-processing steps typically required for resin models, the machine uses digital material jetting to produce paint-free objects and customized surfaces on a variety of materials.

Addressing the Maker’s Dilemma in Desktop Fabrication

Traditional desktop fabrication forces creators to choose between multiple imperfect workflows when adding color to their projects, according to product specifications detailed by HeyGears. FDM multi-color splicing systems rely on filament-switching that generates large waste towers—often weighing more than the print itself—while limiting output to solid colors with visible layer lines.

Alternatively, standard resin 3D printing delivers high-resolution monochrome parts that require manual post-processing. This traditional workflow involves sanding, priming, mixing paint, masking, airbrushing, and clear coating. The G1X aims to bypass these steps by jetting ink droplets in real time and curing them instantly with an integrated UV light source.

Dual Printing Modes and Technical Capabilities

According to technical specifications released by HeyGears, the device operates across two distinct printing modes that switch automatically based on the digital file.

  • 3D Printing Mode: Builds three-dimensional models layer by layer using a dedicated ink set consisting of CMYK, double white, water-soluble support, and transparent material. This mode produces seamless, paint-free full-color models as well as 2.9D deep relief applications extending up to 150 mm.
  • UV Printing Mode: Functions as a flatbed printer capable of 2D printing directly onto more than 400 compatible base materials, including metal, acrylic, wood, leather, and ceramics. It also supports up to 5 mm of 3D texture height to replicate surfaces like wood carvings, leather grain, brush strokes, and Braille.

To achieve accurate color reproduction, the G1X utilizes an 8-channel UV ink system spanning CMYK alongside light cyan, light magenta, white, and varnish. According to company data, the inclusion of light cyan and light magenta channels expands the color gamut to cover over 97% of the standard CMYK range. Hardware performance is driven by an industrial Epson i3200 printhead featuring 3,200 high-density nozzles, which delivers up to a threefold speed increase in UV printing compared to desktop units equipped with a single F1080 printhead.

Software Integration and Automated Calibration

The hardware is paired with proprietary software, including HeyVerse and Blueprint Studio, designed to streamline the transition from digital concept to physical product. According to company documentation, the software suite includes AI-powered modeling tools that allow users to generate high-fidelity models from text prompts or convert two-dimensional visuals into three-dimensional texture outputs.

For batch production, the machine incorporates line-scan imaging technology for automated calibration. This system identifies an object’s precise position, shape, and edges within seconds, enabling automated design alignment and layout management inside Blueprint Studio.
