Hilary Duff Reflects on Past Marriage to Mike Comrie, Prioritizing Son’s Well-being

Hilary Duff recently opened up about her divorce from former NHL player Mike Comrie, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing their son, Luca Cruz Comrie, throughout the separation. The actress shared her experiences on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, detailing the challenges and conscious efforts made to ensure a peaceful transition for their family.

Navigating a Tough Decision

Duff and Comrie began dating in 2007, becoming engaged in 2010 and marrying later that year. They welcomed their son, Luca, in March 2012. Though, the marriage ultimately dissolved, with the couple separating in 2014 and finalizing their divorce in 2016 .

“It got to a point where it just wasn’t going to work,” Duff explained on the podcast. She acknowledged the added difficulty of the decision, given her parents’ own challenging divorce. “My parents went through such a subpar divorce that it was hard to draw a line, but we’re not together anymore, so it was obviously bad enough that it didn’t work.”

Despite the pain, Duff emphasized that the separation was a joint process. “But it wasn’t like I just said run away. It was a joint process that had to happen. But you have to fight for yourself and it doesn’t matter that you have children. Your kids will be fine.”

Prioritizing Luca’s Comfort

With Luca being just a toddler at the time of the divorce, Duff focused on creating a stable and comfortable environment for him. “It was a really tough choice,” she recalled. She made a conscious effort to maintain a friendly relationship with Comrie, ensuring Luca witnessed them interacting positively.

“I remember that I did everything in my power to ensure that it was peaceful and that we would hang out and spend time together,” Duff shared. “Every time we had to change, it wasn’t just a drop off, we went to the park and hung out or ate together. It was really important to me to do it in a way that Luca could feel comfortable with.”

Current Family Life

Duff is now married to musician Matthew Koma, with whom she shares three daughters . She and Koma welcomed their third daughter, Townes Meadow Bair, in May 2024 . She continues to co-parent Luca with Mike Comrie, demonstrating a commitment to a harmonious family dynamic.
