Hillsdale College Track and Field Athletes Compete at NCAA DII Indoor Championships
The Hillsdale College men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 13 and 14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Nine Chargers have qualified for the event across 11 events, the NCAA announced on Tuesday .
Dominance in Throws
Hillsdale’s strength lies in the throwing events, with six of the nine qualifying athletes competing in either the shot put or the weight throw. Both men’s qualifiers are throwers.
Key Competitors
- Ben Haas: The defending NCAA DII national champion in the weight throw is the favorite to repeat, entering the competition as the top seed. He will begin competition on Friday at 2 p.m. And will likewise compete in the shot put on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
- Dominic Scharer: The redshirt freshman is seeded fifth in the weight throw and is a strong contender for All-American honors.
- Olivia Newsome: Seeded 10th in the women’s weight throw with a top throw of 19.25 meters, Newsome will compete on Friday at 5:05 PM.
- Tori Tyo: The freshman is seeded 17th in the weight throw and will also compete on Friday at 5:05 PM.
- Amelia Lutz: Seeded fourth in the women’s shot put, Lutz is a top contender for All-American honors. The event takes place on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
- Sofia Boonzaaijer: The freshman is seeded 18th in the shot put and will compete on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
- Tara Townsend: The senior, an All-American in the outdoor pole vault in 2025, will compete in the pole vault on Saturday at 4 p.m.
- Allison Kuzma: The sophomore qualified in both the 5,000m run (Friday at 6:20 p.m.) and the 3,000m run (Saturday at 6:25 p.m.). She is seeded seventh in the 5K and 17th in the 3K.
- Anna Roessner: The freshman phenom, who set a G-MAC record in the 60m dash, is seeded seventh in the event. She will race in the preliminary round on Friday at 3:30 p.m., with the finals on Saturday at 4:20 p.m.
