More than 350 student members of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education kicked off their academic year on August 28 and 29, 2026, by exploring fields ranging from artificial intelligence to astronomy at the Programme Showcase Day 2026. According to event summaries, the three-session event offered hands-on learning experiences designed to help young scholars discover personal interests and future potential before regular classes resume.
Interactive Zones Spotlight Artificial Intelligence and Astronomy
The Academy set up seven themed interactive booths across its classrooms to give students a direct look at diverse academic disciplines. At the “AI Arms in Action: Innovation for Social Good” station, participants entered live commands to operate robotic arms designed by senior student members, according to event summaries. Organizers noted that these projects combined artificial intelligence, engineering, biomechanics, and product design, while senior students also shared insights from their visits to local elderly centers where they developed technology solutions to assist seniors.
In another popular area titled “Young Astronomers: Discover the Night Sky!”, attendees used telescopes, star charts, and smart telescopes to study constellations, celestial motion, and the movements of the Moon and planets. Additional classrooms hosted stations such as the “Inclusive Storybook Corner” for art and creative expression, “Forensic Science in Fiber Analysis” for hands-on experiments, an “Environmental Science” workshop focused on native tree planting and urban wildlife, and a general “Maker Workshop” covering design and fabrication tools.
Education Leaders Urge Students to Embrace Future Challenges
Several prominent figures attended the opening ceremony to address the student body, including Dr. Lam Tat Ho Lander, Chief Curriculum Development Officer (Gifted Education) of the Education Bureau; Prof. Woo Kam Tim, Chairperson of the Talent Development Committee; and Principal Wan Shuk Fan Suki, Chairperson of the School and Student Services Committee.
