Dartmouth and Holy Cross Skate to 1-1 Tie Before Shootout Decision in Hanover
The Dartmouth women’s ice hockey team outshot Holy Cross 32-28 and skated to a 1-1 tie on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Thompson Arena before the Crusaders secured a 1-0 shootout victory following a scoreless five-minute overtime, dartmouthsports.com reported.
Dartmouth opened the scoring at 10:30 of the first period when Kayla Gerson tallied at even strength. Miami Jones and Addy Cowan picked up the assists on the play, giving the Big Green a 1-0 lead that capped an opening frame featuring 11 shots on net by the hosts.
Goaltender Michaela Hesová protected that advantage through heavy pressure, stopping 27 of 28 shots across 65 minutes. Hesová turned aside numerous bids during the second period while the Big Green played shorthanded four times. Dartmouth’s penalty kill successfully neutralized four of Holy Cross’s five power-play opportunities on the night. Ellie Zakrajsheck paced the offense with five shots, while Ava Giroux, Hailey Maguire, and Cowan each contributed four.
Holy Cross drew even early in the third period when Naemi Herzig converted on the power play at 2:55. Violet Carroll and Manuela Heidenberger assisted on the equalizer. Dartmouth immediately pressed back, firing another 11 shots on net in the final frame, but the Crusader defense turned away every attempt. The Big Green controlled the faceoff circle by winning 29 of 53 draws, led by Ella Inglis with 13 victories, alongside seven apiece from Sophia Chard and Cowan.
Neither side broke the deadlock during the five-minute extra session, with Hesová stopping all five shots she faced in overtime. The match then proceeded to a shootout, where Holy Cross claimed the extra decision in the seventh round after Hesová turned away six of seven initial attempts.
Upcoming Rematch at Thompson Arena
