Child Injured by Homemade Bomb in Estonia
In Lasname, Estonia, on November 19, a nine-year-old child was injured by a homemade bomb made of Torusiil sewer pipe cleaner, according to postimees.ee.
The child remains in serious condition. Similar incidents have increased in recent weeks, prompting heightened attention from the Rescue Service and the police.
There’s been a rise in teenagers throwing homemade bombs, constructed from Torusiil drain cleaner, into streets and yards. Both those making the bombs and bystanders are at risk.
Police have repeatedly warned on social media that these explosions can have serious consequences, as the caustic liquid released is risky to skin and mucous membranes.
This occurred with the nine-year-old boy, who was struck in the eye by an explosive device at a pedestrian crossing near his school in lasname.
“The explosion caused him to fall backwards and experience severe eye pain,” his mother stated, adding that her son instantly contacted her. “I told him to return to school quickly. The nurse provided frist aid and called for an ambulance. They called me while I was on my way, informing me that my son was being transported to the children’s clinic.”
Hospital staff assessed the child’s condition. As an ophthalmologist wasn’t immediately available, the third-grader was transferred to the emergency department of East Tallinn Central Hospital.
The mother praised the ophthalmologists and noted they confirmed a pre-existing condition had resurfaced.
