Daycare Fire in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do: Rescue and Investigation

A fire broke out at a daycare center warehouse in Hongcheon-eup, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea, at 10:36 PM on February 16, 2026. Firefighters successfully rescued a family of four – a couple in their 70s and their children in their 40s – who were residing on the second floor of the building. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Details of the Incident

The fire originated in an external warehouse connected to the daycare building. It subsequently spread to the building’s exterior walls. Firefighters responded swiftly and extinguished the blaze within 18 minutes.

Investigation Underway

The fire department and police are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with authorities interviewing witnesses to gather information. The investigation is ongoing as of February 17, 2026.
