Honolulu Gun Buyback Event Offers Gift Cards for Firearms, No Questions Asked
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is hosting a firearm buyback event on Thursday, March 26, 2026, offering residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted guns in exchange for Foodland gift cards. The event, a collaboration between HPD, the Hawaiʻi Department of Law Enforcement (DLE), and the Department of the Attorney General, aims to reduce the risks associated with unsecured firearms, including accidental shootings, theft, and suicide.

- Time: 9 a.m. To 3 p.m.
- Location: Aloha Stadium lower parking lot, 99-500 Salt Lake Blvd.
- Vehicle Entry: Kahuapaʻani Street, Gate 3
What Firearms Are Accepted?
Community members can turn in handguns, rifles, shotguns, bump stocks, and Glock switches. Assault-type rifles and “ghost guns” are also accepted.
Gift Card Values
- $100 Foodland gift card: Handguns, rifles, shotguns, and Glock switches
- $200 Foodland gift card: Assault-type rifles and ghost guns
Participants may receive up to three gift cards.
Participation Requirements
- Participants must be 21 years or older.
- No identification is required.
- No questions will be asked.
- Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible to participate.
Safety Guidelines
To ensure safety, all firearms must be unloaded and placed in a container or box in the vehicle’s trunk before arriving at the event. Participants are required to remain in their vehicles while law enforcement personnel retrieve the firearms.

Law enforcement and public health experts emphasize that providing safe disposal options for unwanted firearms can aid mitigate risks associated with unsecured weapons. HPD encourages residents who have inherited firearms, no longer want firearms they possess, or have concerns about safe storage to participate in the event.
