Honor Unveils Robot Phone with AI-Powered Robotic Camera and Launches Magic V6 Folding Phone
Barcelona, Spain – Honor showcased its innovative “Robot Phone” concept at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on Sunday, March 1, 2026, alongside the launch of its new premium folding phone, the Magic V6. The Robot Phone features a unique robotic arm-mounted camera powered by artificial intelligence (AI), while the Magic V6 boasts a thinner design and upgraded specifications.
Robot Phone: A New Approach to Mobile Photography
The Robot Phone distinguishes itself with a camera attached to a minor robotic arm capable of extending from the device’s body. This arm allows the camera to move autonomously, track moving subjects and even respond to voice commands with a nod to confirm “yes” or “no.” This functionality aims to replicate the experience of using professional gimbal devices like those offered by DJI DJI Osmo Line.
Honor intends to commercially launch the Robot Phone in China during the second half of 2026, positioning it as a premium-priced device. The company views this innovation as a strategy to differentiate itself in a saturated smartphone market.
IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo suggests the launch is primarily a marketing effort to build Honor’s image as an innovator CNBC International. “There is an element of novelty in it and they need that type of innovation to show their capabilities,” Jeronimo stated. He likewise cautioned that translating this novelty into sales, particularly at a potentially high price point, will be a significant challenge.
Honor’s Market Position and Expansion Strategy
Currently, Honor holds the sixth position in the Chinese smartphone market with a market share exceeding 13%. In Europe, its market share remains around 3%, prompting the company to actively seek new features to increase brand recognition and penetration.
Magic V6: A Thinner, More Powerful Folding Phone
Alongside the Robot Phone, Honor introduced the Magic V6, its latest premium folding smartphone. The Magic V6 measures 8.75mm thick when closed, making it comparable in thinness to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a large-capacity battery.
The Magic V6 will be available for purchase in China in March 2026, with an international launch planned for the second half of the year. Pricing details have not yet been announced.
