Flu Epidemic in France: Peak Expected Around New Year’s

While all regions of mainland France are affected, Pasteur and Public Health France (SpF) communicated forecasts on Wednesday, December 17th, regarding the dynamics of the flu epidemic. “It is indeed likely that seeking treatment for influenza will increase significantly over the next two weeks,” warn these organizations, “with a strong impact to be anticipated at hospitals during the end-of-year holiday period.” A peak could occur at the turn of the year.

This is the first time that Pasteur and Public Health France have communicated such forecasts at the national and regional level, with a four-week horizon, and predicting the probable timing of the peak. The objective is to provide a tool for anticipating the epidemic’s trajectory to help health authorities and professionals.

Between December 8th and 14th, indicators linked to influenza continued to increase across all age groups, according to the weekly report from the public health agency released the same day.
