Houston Astros Trade Prospect anderson Brito in Three-Team Deal

The Houston Astros were involved in a significant three-team trade wiht the Tampa Bay Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, December 19th. The Astros acquired pitcher Mike Burrows from the Pittsburgh Pirates, while sending one of their top prospects, Anderson Brito, to the Rays.

The trade sends the Venezuelan baseball player to the Rays,where he will continue his progress in the Minor Leagues with the goal of reaching MLB.

Brito was ranked as the Astros’ seventh-best prospect and had been with the institution since June 2, 2024.

Houston Astros Management Trades Away Top prospect

While the Astros didn’t acquire established Major League players, the team has traded away two promising prospects. Along with Brito,the Astros also sent outfielder Jacob Melton,the team’s second-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline,to Tampa Bay.

Anderson Brito spent last season with Asheville, a Houston Astros High-A affiliate, and also participated in the Arizona Fall league in 2025, where he posted a 0-1 record with 65 strikeouts, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 3.28 ERA in 49.1 innings pitched.
