Two Charged with Murder in East Houston Stabbing Death

HOUSTON, Texas – The Harris County SheriffS Office has announced murder charges against two individuals in connection with the death of 38-year-old Carlton Lewis, which occurred on January 1, 2026, in an apartment complex in east Houston.

According to sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Jorge Camargo, 44, and Monyka Figueroa-López, 32, have been charged with fatally stabbing Lewis. The incident unfolded after Camargo reportedly knocked on the door of an apartment at 555 Normandy.

Details of the Incident

Investigators determined that a confrontation occurred after camargo questioned the reason for his presence at the apartment. This escalated into a physical altercation during which Camargo allegedly stabbed Lewis.Figueroa-López is accused of participating in the assault by hitting the victim with a pipe.

Lewis managed to leave the scene but was later found deceased by his romantic partner on the porch of their residence at 12603 Woodforest boulevard. He sustained multiple stab wounds. The discovery was made around 6:00 a.m., after Lewis had left his partner’s home around 1:30 a.m.

Initial reports suggested a possible shooting, but authorities later confirmed that Lewis died from stab wounds.

Ongoing Investigation

The motive for Lewis’s presence at the Normandy address remains unclear. Authorities indicate that Lewis may have resided in another apartment within the same complex,located at 550 Normandy.

Arrests and Charges

Both Camargo and Figueroa-López were apprehended by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), with assistance from the Baytown police Department. They have been booked into Harris County Jail on murder charges.
