The association was founded in 2001, originally to provide financial support to the City of Hamelin’s prevention Council, explains founding member and chairman Hermann Niederhut in an interview in the Dewezet Christmas Café.
At that time, such crime prevention councils were founded in many places, for example to develop preventative measures. But both then and now, municipalities lacked the money to finance these voluntary social services.
10,000 euros per year for prevention
With around 10,000 euros per year, the association supports preventive projects in and around Hameln, be it in daycare centers, schools or even senior citizens’ facilities. It is indeed now no longer just about crime prevention, but also about resilience training, for example.
The money for this comes partly from the contributions of around 35 members, but above all from donations from larger local companies. Without them, the work of the association would be impossible, emphasizes Niederhut.
