Social Media Alcohol Promotion Faces Legal Scrutiny

Addictions France denounces a trivialization of communication on alcoholic beverages on social networks, while a specialist lawyer pinpoints a maximalist drift targeting content and influencers.

Describing “a new wild west” in the promotion of alcoholic beverages on social networks and highlighting “influencers face their responsibilities,” Addictions France celebrates its victory on April 7, 2025, before the Paris judicial court. The court “ordered meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to remove 26 content deemed illegal on Instagram and Facebook” and, according to a press release from the association, “frames the influence sector and alcohol brands which can no longer shelter behind the pretext of the gray areas of the Évin law.” Following a similar result obtained on January 5, 2023, in Paris, Addictions France advocates for the evolution of the legal framework. While the Évin law is currently a preventive law, aiming to prevent the appearance of alcohol-related content, the association believes further action is needed.
