OpenAI has integrated a new feature into ChatGPT that allows users to generate custom sticker packs from photos, text prompts, or a mix of both, according to an official announcement on X. The tool produces a grid of nine stylized variants featuring transparent backgrounds, which users can export directly to iMessage and WhatsApp.
How ChatGPT Sticker Generation Works
Users can upload one or multiple images from their device photo library or type a text description. ChatGPT then transforms each image into a sticker, generating nine distinct variations that adopt typical sticker aesthetics while adding, removing, or remixing elements based on user instructions.
OpenAI confirmed that the transparent background capability applies not only to these new sticker packs but also to other image generations produced within ChatGPT. For iPhone and mobile users, the mobile application provides a guided workflow where a dropdown menu allows users to select styles and reference emojis before tapping generate.
Exporting to iMessage and WhatsApp
Once ChatGPT builds the grid of nine stickers, users can tap an “Add to chat apps” button to export their creations.

On iMessage, the transparent background allows the sticker to sit naturally over conversation bubbles rather than inside a rectangular photo box.
Mobile Versus Desktop Availability
The sticker generation features are fully deployed across mobile devices first, featuring pre-prompt options and guided style menus in the app interface. On desktop versions, users can generate images directly underneath the prompt bar, though the platform currently lacks the guided dropdown style menus available on mobile apps, according to BDM.
