Samsung Simplifies iPhone to Galaxy Migration With One UI 9 Update
Samsung has updated its Smart Switch tool within One UI 9 to allow iPhone users to transfer data to Galaxy devices without downloading a dedicated app on the iOS device. According to Samsung, users can now initiate the migration by scanning a QR code displayed on the Samsung Galaxy device, provided the iPhone is running iOS 26.6 or later.
Wireless Transfer Now Supports eSIMs and Passkeys
The One UI 9 update removes previous limitations that required a physical cable for specific types of sensitive data. According to reports from PhonAndroid, the wireless transfer process now supports the migration of eSIMs, passwords, and passkeys. This marks a shift from previous versions of Smart Switch where these specific data points were restricted to wired connections.
Beyond security credentials, Samsung has expanded wireless interoperability to include:
- Accessibility settings
- Call history
- Saved Wi-Fi networks
- Contacts and calendars
- Application data
Device Compatibility and Deployment Timeline
The updated Smart Switch functionality is currently exclusive to the new foldable lineup, specifically the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8, which ship with One UI 9. Samsung stated that the software will be deployed progressively to other compatible Galaxy devices.

However, the outlet expects the stable release of the software to bring these migration improvements to the broader Galaxy S series.
Ecosystem Interoperability Trends
This update follows a broader industry trend toward reducing friction between Android and iOS. PhonAndroid reports that Apple introduced a native migration tool for Android starting with iOS 26.3. Samsung’s latest move aligns with previous efforts to increase compatibility, such as the integration of Quick Share with AirDrop, aimed at lowering the barrier for users switching between operating systems.
