Syracuse Foster Program Seeks Homes for Shelter Animals
Humane CNY shelter in Liverpool, New York, has placed more than 620 animals into foster homes this year as part of an ongoing effort to reach a goal of 1,000 adoptions, spectrumlocalnews.com reported. The shelter relies on community volunteers to house animals that require individual attention before they are ready for permanent adoption.
Shelter Care Transitions to Apartment Fostering
Animals that arrive at the shelter with shy or shut-down behaviors are prioritized for the foster network. Emily Serio, development coordinator at Humane CNY, noted that the facility lacks the capacity to provide constant one-on-one interaction for every animal in its kennels. Fostering allows animals to adjust to domestic environments while giving shelter staff critical behavioral insights regarding how pets react to children, other animals, and unfamiliar noises.
We tend to send the more shut-down and shy animals, because they need more hands-on, one-on-one time than we can give here,
Serio said, according to spectrumlocalnews.com.
Daily Life in a Syracuse Foster Home
In a Syracuse apartment, four roommates currently foster three kittens named Santana, Curtis, and Artie. Grace Barrera, one of the roommates, observed that Santana's behavior changed after the kitten first arrived hiding and avoiding contact.
Now, she’s honestly the most lovable one, which is funny. She’s definitely warmed up,
Barrera told spectrumlocalnews.com.
Gracie Patriarca, another roommate involved in the fostering process, shared that the kittens actively seek out attention upon her return from school. The arrangement provides mutual benefits, serving as a daily stress-reliever for the students while giving the animals a stable space to develop social skills.
Humane CNY Covers All Foster Pet Expenses
Humane CNY supplies all necessary provisions for participating foster households, covering food, litter, medical expenses, and supplies. Volunteers are only asked to provide living space and time.
It’s like having a pet without the financial burden of having a pet,
Serio explained to spectrumlocalnews.com.
