One of the biggest movements comes from the shipbuilding industry: the Italian shipyard group Fincantieri wants to enter into a partnership with Generative Bionics to develop a humanoid welding robot. The aim is to seamlessly integrate the platform into Fincantieri’s large shipyards to increase safety, efficiency and quality. The plan calls for a four-year program, with the first on-site tests in 2026 and essential functional modules within the first two years.

The investment threshold in humanoid robotics is reaching new heights. On February 11, 2026, the US company Apptronik announced an expansion of its Series A financing by USD 520 million – bringing the total round to over USD 935 million. The total financing is therefore close to USD 1 billion. Existing investors include B Capital, Google and Mercedes-Benz; new strategic backers such as AT&T Ventures, John Deere and the Qatar Investment Authority are participating.
From a market perspective, a new forecast strengthens confidence: The global industrial robotics industry could start at around 59.9 billion euros in 2026 and grow to around 316.3 billion euros by 2036 – at an annual growth rate of 18.1 percent. Growth is increasingly shifting from pure volume to intelligent automation: robots are becoming capable of learning, flexible and safer in interaction with people.
