Gareth Brisbane, husband of the late Married at First Sight star Mel Schilling, has spoken exclusively to the Belfast Telegraph about his wife’s deep connection to Northern Ireland, describing it as her “second home.”
Speaking from his hometown of Whitehead in County Antrim, Brisbane shared how Schilling embraced life in Northern Ireland during their frequent visits, forming strong bonds with locals who welcomed her as one of their own.
“Northern Ireland was Mel’s second home… she loved it here,” Brisbane said, reflecting on the warmth and affection she received from friends and communities across the region.
He also opened up about Schilling’s courageous battle with cancer, expressing gratitude for the support they received from family, friends, and well-wishers throughout her illness.
As part of honouring her memory, Brisbane revealed that he scattered some of Schilling’s ashes along the Whitehead coast—a place she held dear—fulfilling a personal wish tied to her love for the area.
