Friesenstadion in Husum Undergoes Modernization with New Artificial Turf and Floodlights

Husum, Germany – The Friesenstadion is undergoing a significant modernization project, including the installation of a new artificial turf field and floodlights. The upgrades aim to improve the playing conditions and expand usage opportunities for local sports clubs.

Artificial Turf Installation

Following a decision by the Husum city council in December 2024, construction began on replacing the natural grass surface with artificial turf on field B. The city council approved the project to address issues with mole damage and reduce field maintenance. The new turf is a modern generation that doesn’t require filling materials like quartz sand or cork granules, making it more environmentally friendly.

New Floodlights for Enhanced Play

In addition to the artificial turf, new floodlights are being installed on both fields A and B. The installation of floodlights will allow for games and training sessions to continue during the autumn and winter months, addressing a previous limitation caused by insufficient lighting.

Project Timeline

Fabio De Nicolo, chairman of Husum Sports Club (HSV), anticipates the completion of the artificial turf and floodlight installation by summer 2026, potentially in July or August. Friesen-Stadion is located at Am Hasselberg 30, 25813 Husum, Germany.

Future Clubhouse Development

A further phase of the Friesenstadion renovation involves the construction of a new, barrier-free clubhouse. Planning for the clubhouse is complete and construction is scheduled to start in mid-2027, with an expected completion date of 2028.

Merger and Investment

The modernization project was facilitated by the 2022 merger of local sports clubs to form HSV. This consolidation increased the club’s influence and enabled it to secure investment for the Friesenstadion upgrades.

De Nicolo expressed his enthusiasm for the completed project, stating he is looking forward to the opening weekend for the department.
