Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have arrested a 30-year-old software employee from the Kachiguda neighborhood for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account to post abusive and sexually explicit comments targeting a prominent woman political leader, according to law enforcement records.
Arrest and Charges Filed Under IT Act and BNS
The suspect, whose identity was withheld beyond his profession and residence, was taken into custody under Crime No. 1863/2025. Investigators seized one mobile phone from his possession during the arrest.
Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police booked the man under Sections 66(D) and 67 of the Information Technology Act alongside Sections 79 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to police statements, the suspect operated the anonymous profile believing his identity would remain hidden while he disseminated defamatory material online.
Origin of the Online Harassment on Instagram
The investigation stems from an incident in October 2025, when a video featuring the victim was uploaded to the “Poora Local” Instagram channel. The video subsequently went viral across social media platforms.
The suspect created the fraudulent Instagram profile specifically to target the complainant. Police stated that the abusive and defamatory comments were posted beneath the viral video with the explicit intent to damage the woman’s reputation, insult her dignity, and outrage her modesty.
Police Investigation and Digital Tracking
The case was cracked under the supervision of Cyber Crimes ACP R.G. Shiva Maruthi and led by Inspector K. Satish Reddy, with an investigative team comprising SI A. Srikanth, HC K. Venkataramana, PC Ch. Rajesh Kumar, and PC G. Bhupesh Naidu. Officials traced the digital trail left by the anonymous profile to identify and apprehend the software employee in Hyderabad.
Following the arrest, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police issued a public warning against creating fake social media profiles, misusing identities, and posting obscene content. Law enforcement cautioned users that anonymous profiles can still be tracked during cybercrime investigations and advised victims of online harassment to preserve evidence such as screenshots, profile URLs, dates, and timestamps rather than immediately deleting offensive posts.
